The Legend: Minthe was a Naiad - a water nymph - who caught the eye of Hades. In jealousy, the queen of the underworld Persephone turned Minthe into a plant, known now as water mint. Growing wild along river banks all over Europe you will find wild water mint filling the air with a refreshing, uplifting fragrance.
Peppermint is a hybrid of water mint and spearmint. Maybe this is why we are drawn to put mint in and around our mouths?
